SAINT ANDREWS (GNB) – Seafood lovers from around the world are descending on Saint Andrews for the annual Bay of Fundy Seafood Week, June 6-16.

The event offers something for everyone – from buyers, researchers, retailers and chefs to visitors looking to enjoy some of the best seafood in the world.

"This is an opportunity for New Brunswickers to celebrate our seafood industry and showcase for the world why we are the number one exporter of seafood in Canada," said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp. “This festival has grown from an aquaculture fair that began three decades ago into a 10-day event that involves the entire aquaculture and fisheries communities. It is an impressive example of what can be accomplished by everyone working together."

The festival has grown again this year from one week to a 10-day event with the addition of a new culinary tourism adventure.

It is divided into four main themes:

●    The Fundy Seafood Expedition (June 6-9) is a new, four-day culinary tourism adventure organized by the Kingsbrae Arms Inn. Curated tours take visitors behind the scenes of farms, fisheries and gardens committed to growing and raising food responsibly.

●    The Lobster and Salmon Academy (June 10-13) is for seafood buyers within Canada and internationally. The four-day education event features a series of lectures, events, on-the-water tours, interactive presentations, plants tours and chef demonstrations for buyers to learn about harvesting, processing and the economics of lobster and salmon.

●    The Seafood Forum (June 11-13) will host seafood producers, buyers, marine science researchers, retailers and chefs from around the world. It will focus on New Brunswick's innovative research and sustainable seafood practices as well as the health benefits of seafood.

●    The Saint Andrews Seafood Festival (June 14-16) welcomes visitors from throughout the Maritimes and New England. The festival features cooking demonstrations, tours of salmon farms, special seafood menus in local restaurants, seafood and wine pairings, music and the biggest lobster boil, clam bake, salmon barbecue and seafood scoff that one can imagine.

The Bay of Fundy Seafood Week is sponsored by: the Government of New Brunswick; Cooke Aquaculture; True North Salmon Co.; Northern Harvest Sea Farms Ltd.; Breviro Caviar Paturel International Co.; Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association; Northeast Nutrition Ardagh Group; Future Nets and Supplies Ltd.; and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
