FREDERICTON (GNB) – The New Brunswick Grain Commission is accepting applications from qualified candidates who would like to be considered for an appointment to the commission's board.

Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp announced the commission is looking to fill three positions on its seven-member board. These positions include members to represent the interests of agricultural producers, the pedigreed seed trade and the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada.

The commission was established in 1981 under the New Brunswick Grain Act and is responsible to the Minister for the administration of the act. The main objectives of the commission are to provide for the effective development of the grain industry and to establish and maintain standards of quality for grain and grain handling in the province to ensure a dependable commodity for markets.
 
The commission meets twice a year, and on an as-needed basis. Members are appointed by  cabinet (lieutenant-governor-in-council) for a term of four years and are eligible for re-appointment. Applicants must be a resident of New Brunswick, active in the business of one of the three membership categories, and have a working knowledge of the sector's opportunities and challenges. Applicants should include details of their experience in a resumé and cover letter with their application.
