FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries’ Buy Local campaign is getting ready for another season of promoting homegrown food and beverages.

“More and more people are interested in eating local and knowing where their food comes from,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet. “The campaign allows us to reach out to everyone who wants to learn more about the food and beverages being produced right here in New Brunswick.”

Throughout the summer and fall, the Buy Local team will visit festivals and fairs throughout the province, showcasing everything New Brunswick has to offer in locally sourced food and beverages. The campaign features everything from traditional crops to specialty produce, as well as fish, seafood, meat and wines.

“The Buy Local campaign fits with the growing trend of food tourism,” said Doucet. “This presents a perfect opportunity for us to promote our local producers, markets and food festivals. Some of the best products in the world are grown and processed right here in New Brunswick, and they are all featured at our world-class food tourism events.”

Stops on the 2016 Buy New Brunswick tour include:

  • FestiVin in Caraquet, June 3;
  • Feels Good Folly Fest in Gagetown, June 25;
  • Agricultural Expo in Grand Falls, June 30;
  • National French Fry Day in Florenceville-Bristol, July 13;
  • New Brunswick Fisheries and Aquaculture Festival in Shippagan, July 15;
  • Expo Kent in Bouctouche, Aug. 29;
  • New Brunswick Exhibition in Fredericton, Sept. 9;
  • New Brunswick Fall Fair in Sackville, Sept. 17; and
  • Indulge Food and Wine Festival in Saint Andrews, Oct. 14.

Buy Local tour coordinators will be on hand at these events with brochures, maps and recipes, so visitors can get the most out of their Buy New Brunswick experience.

“From salmon to wild blueberries, from lobster to fine wine, you can really get it all right here at home,” said Doucet. “The Buy Local campaign celebrates our homegrown food and beverages and the people who produce them.”
