FREDERICTON (GNB) – Several New Brunswick companies will join a delegation led by Premier Brian Gallant and Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet to participate in North America’s largest seafood show.

“New Brunswick’s fish and seafood sectors are key contributors to the New Brunswick economy,” said Gallant. “Promoting our world-class products to buyers in the United States, our largest export market, will create jobs and spur economic development.”

Seafood Expo North America, commonly known as the Boston seafood show, takes place March 19-21, with more than 20,000 buyers and suppliers of fresh, frozen, packaged and value-added seafood products taking part.

The expansion of traditional industries like the fishery is a key component of the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for driving the economy forward.

“Trade with the United States is crucial to the New Brunswick economy,” said Gallant. “We look forward to meeting business leaders and government officials to discuss how robust trade between Canada and the United States is crucial to both our economies.”

New Brunswick companies in the Seafood Expo North America delegation include:

  • True North Salmon of Blacks Harbour
  • Shediac Lobster Shop
  • Little Shemogue Oyster Company
  • South Shore Trading of Port Elgin
  • Intercambio/Michel and Charles LeBlanc of Cap Pele
  • Partner Seafood of Shediac
  • Bay Shore Lobster of St. George
  • Captain Dan’s of Richibucto
  • Paturel International of Deer Island
  • Gourmet Chef Packers of Shediac
  • Westmorland Fisheries of Cap Pelé

Several New Brunswick processing companies are also taking part, including Cube Automation, Lizotte Machine Vision, Midland Transport, Master Packaging, Seaplast Americas and Downeast Plastics Ltd. A number of other companies are also taking part in the show but are not part of the official New Brunswick delegation.

“New Brunswick has some of the world’s best seafood products,” said Doucet. “Promoting these companies and their world-renowned products in Boston has an enormous impact on our ability to attract new customers, expand our markets and create more jobs for New Brunswickers.”

The presence of New Brunswick companies at international expos and other global activities is part of the government’s strategy to aggressively pursue new markets and facilitate increased export sales to help grow New Brunswick’s economy.

The New Brunswick delegation is part of a larger Atlantic pavilion funded in part by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
