FREDERICTON (CNB) – New Brunswickers now have until June 30 to return their Saint John Harbour Bridge B-pass for a refund, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams announced today.

"Now that the tolls have been removed from the Saint John Harbour Bridge, the devices used for automatic payment are no longer required," said Williams. "By extending this deadline from May 14 to June 30, we are ensuring New Brunswickers have ample time to receive any refunds that may remain on their accounts."

Williams said there is another option for the return of these devices.

"I am pleased to recognize that the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation in Saint John have a campaign to collect donated B-pass devices," said Williams. "Individuals can turn in their passes at the hospital, and if there are remaining dollars on the account, that money will go toward fund-raising initiatives through the foundation.

"The foundation staff came up with this interesting idea, and the Department of Transportation certainly supports their efforts," he said.

"We have already received some donated B-passes, and the response from the Greater Saint John residents is very positive," said Laurie Flood, executive director, St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation.  "I would like to thank those who donated, as well as the provincial government for supporting our idea."

B-pass devices can be dropped off at St. Joseph's Hospital and various locations throughout the Greater Saint John area, or through any of the participating Saint John Dragon Boat Teams. Donors are asked to look for the Pass it on Campaign posters or call the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation office 506-632-5596 for drop-off locations.

Individuals who wish to receive a personal refund on their account may submit a request by email to [email protected], or by mail to: Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 6000, Fredericton, N.B., E3B 5H1. Applicants should include their name, complete mailing address and phone number, along with the transponder number or account number.
