FREDERICTON (CNB) – The educational specifications for the new Moncton High School have been approved and the architectural firm selected to design the building was announced today by Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Jody Carr and by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams.

"The educational specifications will serve as the guideline in building the new school," said Carr. "This process is moving swiftly and we are eager to begin the next phase to ensure that the staff and students will have a new school by 2013."

Included in the educational specifications are specialized instruction science labs, broad-based technology rooms, a student government room, a student commons area and a library/media centre.

The Moncton-based company Prodel Design will design the building based upon the approved specifications.

"This is an exciting and important step in the process towards a new school," Williams. "Once the architect begins his work, students, parents, teachers and staff will soon have a visual image of what the new Moncton High School will look like."

The Department of Supply and Services is continuing work on the existing Moncton High School building to enable the 1,250 students, the teachers and support staff to safely return in September, while the new school is being built.
