SAINT ANDREWS (GNB) – The provincial government will invest more than $1.6 million in Saint Andrews roads as part of its 2018-19 capital budget.

“Your government is committed to creating jobs and growing the economy,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser. “Investing in transportation infrastructure helps fuel the economy through the safe and efficient flow of people and goods in all regions of New Brunswick.”

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will fund the paving of a 7.9-kilometre section of Route 127, from Clark Road to the Glebe Road area. Through the Municipal Designated Highway Program, the government will also fund drainage improvements, culvert installation and widening the shoulder of 500 metres of Bayview Drive, from Cedar Lane to Marine Science Drive. Curbs and gutters will be installed on 300 metres of Mowat Drive between Bar Road and Thomas Avenue.

The Municipal Designated Highway Program allows municipalities to apply for funding assistance for capital upgrade projects. Funding for the program has more than doubled since the 2014-15 fiscal year, increasing to $25 million in 2015. It has remained at that level as part of a government commitment to sustain funding for municipalities.

The department’s $688.2-million capital budget reflects the government’s priority of investing strategically in its buildings, highways and bridges. Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, the government’s framework for growing the economy and creating jobs.
