FREDERICTON (GNB) – Spring weight restrictions will be lifted from highways in southern New Brunswick on Sunday, May 12. In northern New Brunswick, weight restrictions will remain in place until midnight on Sunday, May 19.

“Due to recent flooding and rain, the ground remains saturated in several areas,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver. “As a result, some of our secondary routes will remain weight-restricted or closed to trucks until the road conditions improve.”

Weight restrictions for trucks are imposed each year to protect highways from damage during the spring thaw.

District engineers are authorized to close roads to trucks or to impose weight restrictions on highways or portions of highways at any time to protect them.
