GRAND FALLS (GNB) – The provincial government is joining the federal government and the Town of Grand Falls to support storm sewer upgrades. Collectively, partners are investing $4.2 million, with each investing up to $1.4 million towards the project.

Grand Falls will use the funding to install a new dedicated storm sewer system on Broadway Boulevard. Once completed, the project will make water treatment systems in the area more efficient, improve protection against property damage from flooding and reduce river bank erosion.

“We need strategic infrastructure in our communities if businesses are to set-up, succeed and create jobs in New Brunswick,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “This is the type of investment that gives communities the infrastructure they need to grow and create jobs.”

Victoria-La Vallée MLA Chuck Chiasson, who attended the announcement for Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny, said the project represents an important investment for the community.

“Improving life for New Brunswick families includes their safety, and that is why we are investing in these important storm sewer upgrades here in Grand Falls,” said Chiasson. “This investment will also help put New Brunswickers to work.”

Grand Falls is the first New Brunswick community to receive joint funding under the Small Communities Fund. It provides funds for strategic infrastructure projects that contribute to both a cleaner environment and economic growth.

Under the fund, the provincial government is partnering with the federal government and municipalities or local service districts to jointly invest more than $118 million in infrastructure over the next 10 years.
