FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Department of Environment and Local Government is now accepting applications for funding under the Environmental Trust Fund.

“Our government is committed to protecting, preserving and enhancing the province's natural environment,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Brian Kenny. “By allocating financial support through the Environmental Trust Fund we are creating jobs and helping grassroots and community organizations participate in moving New Brunswick towards a more environmentally responsible future.”

Revenue for the fund comes from about half of the environmental fee paid on redeemable beverage containers. The fund provides assistance to community groups, organizations, municipalities and institutions for projects that produce tangible, measurable benefits to the environment. Last year, it provided more than $6.2 million to 232 projects.

The 2016-17 priority action areas for the fund are:

• protecting the environment;
• increasing environmental awareness;
• managing waste;
• addressing climate change; and
• building sustainable communities.

Submissions will be assessed based upon how they address these areas as well as how they contribute to government’s broader priorities of creating jobs, maintaining fiscal responsibility and helping families.

The application form and additional information is available online. Only online applications will be accepted. The deadline for application is Dec. 11.
