FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government will issue a new Class 1 air quality approval for Irving Paper Ltd.’s mill on Bayside Drive, Saint John.
The company’s current approval expires on March 31, with the new one taking effect on April 1. It follows consultations that included a public review which ran from Sept. 23, 2015, to Feb. 1, 2016.
The mill uses the Thermal Mechanical Pulping (TMP) process to produce about 900 tonnes of pulp per day from 100-per-cent softwood.
From a mixture of TMP pulp, bleached kraft pulp received primarily from the Reversing Falls kraft pulp mill and clay fillers, Irving Paper produces about 1,200 tonnes of paper per day, consisting of specialty grades for flyers, catalogues and magazines.
The information, along with approval conditions, is available on the Department of Environment and Local Government website or at any regional office of the department.
Class 1 major industries are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
