FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government will issue a new Class 1 air quality approval for Twin Rivers Paper Company for their sulphite and groundwood mills in Edmundston.
The company's current approval expires on July 31, with the new approval taking effect on Aug. 1. The approval follows a public consultation process that included a public review that ran between Jan. 27 and May 28.
Twin Rivers Paper has become a leading manufacturer of lightweight and ultra-lightweight specialty publishing, packaging, label and converting papers, and currently operates the sulphite and groundwood mills in Edmundston, as well as five paper machines and an offline coater in Madawaska, Maine.
Today, Twin Rivers Paper’s Edmundston operation produces about 100 tonnes per day of groundwood pulp and 700 tonnes per day of magnesium based sulphite pulp, both of which are pumped to the Madawaska finishing mill for conversion into printing and writing papers.
The information, along with approval conditions, can be viewed on the Department of Environment and Local Government website or at any regional office of the department.
Class 1 major industries are required to comply with the Air Quality Regulation under the Clean Air Act, and to operate under the terms and conditions established in the approval to operate.
