Overview
This department is responsible for administering the Clean Environment Act, which in turn provides the authority for the Minister to make scrap tires a 'designated material'. Subsequently, Regulation 2008-54 under the Act allows Recycle NB to establish and administer a scrap tire management program. The program consists of a 'tire levy', which is charged at the time of purchase, to be used to manage/recycle the tire at the end of its useful life.
As of January 1, 2014, when a vehicle, as defined in the Motor Vehicle Act, is purchased outside of New Brunswick and that vehicle is registered in New Brunswick, the person registering the vehicle is responsible to remit tire recycling fees for the tires associated to that vehicle at the time of registration.

All purchasers of new motor vehicle tires.
Description
The fee allows for the use, storage, collection, transportation, recycling, processing, disposal and other tire and scrap tire handling.
