FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswickers of all ages are invited to a celebration of Victoria Day and the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, May 21, on the Saint John waterfront.

The celebration will be an afternoon of music, food, fun and festivities at the Marco Polo Cruise Ship Terminal, 111 Water St., from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“The Victoria Day weekend is the first time each year that many of us get together with our friends and family to celebrate the warmer days and nights of spring and the summer to come,” said Premier David Alward. “I am inviting all New Brunswickers to come down to Saint John and join us in a party for the entire family and honour our Queen as Her Majesty marks 60 years as Queen of Canada.”

The celebration will be family-oriented. From bouncy castles to jewellery makers, from buskers to blues musicians, and from potato chips to ploye, families will be able to taste, touch and tap their toes to the best New Brunswick culture has to offer.

Musical performers throughout the afternoon will include the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, featuring a multicultural sampling of the province's top performers. Award-winning and accomplished artists like Samantha Robichaud and Jessica Rhaye, Hubert Francis and Babette Hayward, Before the Mast and Zany Lane will keep audiences entertained all afternoon.

The rich and diverse culture of the province will be on display, with craft demonstrations by the artisans of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. There will be a variety of food vendors, children's activities and cultural displays throughout the cruise terminal area.

“This will be a fantastic afternoon and a wonderful chance to experience all our beautiful province has to offer all in one place,” Alward said. “Come out and celebrate Victoria Day with an afternoon of great entertainment and fun.”
