FREDERICTON (GNB) – John McLaughlin has been appointed deputy minister of Education and Early Childhood Development (anglophone sector), effective June 3. Premier David Alward made the announcement today.

“I am confident that John's experience, expertise and knowledge in various fields of education, including his teaching experience, will help support the efforts in the department,” Alward said. “Staff will benefit from his leadership as they continue to work together to rebuild education and early childhood needs in the province.”

McLaughlin's well-rounded career includes several positions in the education system at the school district and department levels. He has been serving as acting deputy minister since January.  He became assistant deputy minister of Education and Early Childhood Development in May 2012.

Alward also thanked the retiring deputy minister, Wendy McLeod MacKnight.

“I thank Wendy McLeod MacKnight for her dedication to our education system and the people of New Brunswick during her time as deputy minister,” Alward said. “I remain confident in this leadership team, and I look forward to working together to rebuild our province through an ongoing commitment to shift our efforts toward a more focused, efficient and effective system of program and service delivery.”
