FREDERICTON (CNB) – The provincial government is making forms available for the restored  Home Energy Assistance Program.

"I am sure that as the winter months become harsher, many families will be helped by this program," said Finance Minister Blaine Higgs.

The provincial government re-introduced the program in November. It is expected to help 55,000 New Brunswickers.

The $100 benefit will help low-income families cope with high-energy prices. The one-time payment will be provided to those who have incomes up to, and including $28,000 in 2009. The benefit will begin being provided this month.

Individuals may apply by going to the Department of Finance website or by calling 1-800-669-7070. Forms are also available at Service New Brunswick outlets.
