FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has reached a tentative collective agreement with local 1253 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

This group includes about 1,700 school bus drivers, custodians, maintenance and repair staff, forepersons and other tradespeople working in the province’s seven school districts.

“This is great news, and I thank the two negotiating teams for reaching this tentative agreement,” said Treasury Board President Roger Melanson. “This illustrates our commitment to ensuring the government treats its employees with fairness by respecting the collective bargaining process.”

The parties have agreed to withhold details of the agreement pending its ratification.
