NICE, France (GNB) – Kevin Arseneau, originally from Robertville and living in Cocagne, captured the interest of the public and the jury members today during the story-telling competitions at the VIIth Jeux de la Francophonie, held at the Théâtre national de Nice in France.

Arseneau told a story relating to Acadian history that describes the relationship between a small boy and a tree.

''I feel great,” he said following his 25-minute presentation. “The public really got into my story, and things went well. I could have gone on for another 45 minutes, but I was limited by time. My story spoke of the relationship between a boy and a tree and how the tree gave the boy everything he had without asking anything in return, even being cut down. There is an important message in this about saving our language and culture and also about the environment.

''I am happy I was able to keep to my 25 minutes. I was able to give the audience a hint of the history of Acadians with some references to France so they understood better. I told the story as I would do it home. My next stress is waiting to find out if I will be chosen as one of the five finalists. I await the judges' decision.''

The naming of the finalists should come on Sept. 11 with the final presentation on the evening of Sept. 12. The last group of story-tellers will be heard Sept. 10.
