FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was issued today by Premier Blaine Higgs for Canada Day, Monday, July 1:

This Canada Day, the Government of New Brunswick is proud to join the rest of the country in celebrating our nation’s 152nd birthday.

Canada Day is a celebration of our country and its rich history. Here in New Brunswick, we have a lot to celebrate. Our province is home to people from many diverse cultural backgrounds, and we are lucky to live in a place where we can be proud and respectful of our differences, while also recognizing our shared values and aspirations.

Canadians are known around the world as dedicated, kind, innovative and strong people. These qualities are especially clear during times of hardship. Following the recent flooding in our province, our resilience as Canadians shone through. We saw many examples of neighbours helping neighbours, allowing those affected by the flood to persevere through an incredibly difficult situation. I know we will continue to work together as we recover, creating a stronger province as a result.

On July 1, I encourage all New Brunswickers to mark Canada Day in their own way. Whether that involves taking in live entertainment and fireworks, visiting one of our province’s beautiful beaches or hiking trails, or simply spending time with family and friends, this is a time to celebrate all the things we love about our province and our country.

We are fortunate to live in such an extraordinary place. On Canada Day, we celebrate all the great things we have accomplished as a nation, and we look forward to building an even better future together.

Happy Canada Day!
