FREDERICTON (GNB) – The Basic Emergency Management course is now available online for free to the emergency management community.

The course is designed to provide students with a broad knowledge base to carry out planning and operations during an emergency. It introduces planning-process theory and provides operating procedures for a variety of emergency scenarios. The management, command, control and co-ordination functions are examined through case studies.

Before now, the course was only available through a CD-ROM which would be mailed to students.

“This is a significant step in our ability to provide important training to New Brunswickers,” said Greg MacCallum, director of the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization. “Simplifying access can only benefit those who take the course and the communities they serve.”

The course is available in both official languages. Interested individuals may register by emailing [email protected] and indicating their organization and their role as an emergency management partner. Information on how to access the course will be provided within five business days. Additional information is available by calling 506-453-2133 or 1-800-561-4034.

This introductory level course is required, along with the ICS 100 course, as a prerequisite for advanced training such as the Emergency Operation Centre course and Emergency Public Information course.
