BELLEDUNE (CNB) - The provincial government is working with the Village of Belledune to create a new skateboard park.

"The provincial government is proud to be a partner in this community project," said Education Minister Roland Haché. "This project for Belledune and the region will allow our young people to continue to be active, and our communities to continue to thrive."

Haché spoke on behalf of Business New Brunswick Minister Victor Boudreau, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

An investment of $30,700 provided under the Regional Development Corporation's Family and Youth Capital Assistance Program (FYCAP) will be used toward the creation of a new skateboard park in the village, near the fire station and Jacquet River School.

"The Village of Belledune is pleased by the support from other funders, namely the Regional Development Corporation and the New Brunswick Children's Foundation, for the youth of Belledune," said Belledune Mayor Nick Duivenvoorden. "Sport and activity is an integral part of healthy living and we are happy to sponsor such a project for the youth of our community and hope that they make great use of it for many years to come."

The FYCAP gives community groups, non-profit organizations, local service districts, and municipalities engaged in youth- and family-related activities an opportunity to apply for funding for eligible capital costs of projects in support of youth- and family-related activities.
