LAMÈQUE (CNB) – The provincial government is investing  $789,000 to renovate and refurbish the Aréna des Îles in Lamèque.

"It is important to invest in key recreational infrastructure and maintain them,” said Economic Development Minister Paul Robichaud. “Today's investment will help ensure the Aréna des Îles is available to serve the entire Lamèque region for many years to come. The provincial government is proud to invest in these types of community projects that promote healthy living for families."

Robichaud, Lamèque Mayor Rénald Haché, and Édith Duguay, president of Aréna des Îles, made the announcement today.

Funding provided through the Regional Development Corporation will help pay for renovating and refurbishing the arena, which received extensive damage in an accident in May 2010. The project includes renovations to the exterior wall, dressing rooms, roof, emergency exits, main entrance and canteen.
