TRACADIE (GNB) – The provincial government is investing $335,000 in the expansion of Les Résidences Lynne Ferguson.

“We know how important creating jobs, growing the economy, and securing health care and education are to New Brunswickers and their families,” said Environment and Local Government Minister Serge Rousselle. “Our government’s investment will allow the residents to have a better quality of life and will enable the staff to be more effective in the delivery of services.”

Rousselle spoke on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is the minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

Funding will be used to expand the facility by about 186 square metres (2,000 square feet) and to update the building’s exterior. The expansion will allow for four additional rooms for residents, office space, a larger dining area and kitchen, and a new multi-purpose room.

“The provincial government’s investment in our expansion project will enhance our capacity to provide appropriate care and services for people with autism,” said Irénée Comeau, the facility’s administrative director. “Creating more opportunities at Les Résidences Lynne Ferguson means the organization can grow and make a larger impact on the Acadian Peninsula.”

Les Résidences Lynne Ferguson specializes in providing services to adults with autism, looking after their physical needs, making arrangements for followup by doctors and psychiatrists, organizing educational and recreational activities and helping with integration into the community.
