EDMUNDSTON (GNB) – The provincial government is contributing $175,000, through the Regional Development Corporation, for the creation of an intergenerational park in Edmundston.

“The provincial government invests in communities to promote active, healthy lifestyles,” said Economic Development Minister Francine Landry. “We are proud to be a partner with the Rue Principale Saint-Basile committee and the City of Edmundston in this important recreational community project for Edmundston.”

Landry spoke on behalf of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Donald Arseneault, who is also minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation.

The City of Edmundston is contributing $307,822 and the local community is contributing the rest of the funding for the $850,000 project through monetary, technical and material donations.

Funding for the project will include for the construction of a splash pad, the building of new play areas for children as well as for adults, a new landscaping design and a multifunctional building.

“This new intergenerational infrastructure would not have been possible without the funding from our provincial partner, but most importantly, without the massive investment of time and effort from the local community who have really driven this project to where it stands today,” said Edmundston Mayor Cyrille Simard. “This is a truly inspiring example of community investment.”
