MIRAMICHI (GNB) – The provincial government is contributing $500,000 towards the purchase of a mechanized forestry equipment simulator at the New Brunswick Community College (NBCC) campus in Miramichi.

“Investing in education and supporting our industries are key components to growing New Brunswick’s economy,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “With this investment in a mechanized forestry equipment simulator, New Brunswick will be the only province east of Quebec offering this type of program.”

The college’s new mechanized forestry equipment operator program helps students gain the skills needed for entry-level positions in the industry. It also teaches students how to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on the equipment.

“This funding will help NBCC deliver programs to meet the labour market need for skilled operators,” said Karen White-O’Connell, regional director of the Miramichi campus. “We are grateful to our funding partners, the Government of New Brunswick, for this important contribution to and investment in our training capacity.”

The provincial government’s contribution is through the Northern New Brunswick Economic Development and Innovation Fund.
