FREDERICTON (CNB) – The public is invited to view the New Brunswick Provincial Showcase of Heritage Fair projects, currently on exhibit at Government House in Fredericton. Details were released today by Lt.-Gov. Graydon Nicholas, who is an honorary patron of heritage fairs.

"I congratulate all the students and volunteers who have worked so hard to make these heritage fairs a success this year," said Nicholas. "The impressive projects on display celebrate the unique and diverse heritage of our province, and encourage a better understanding of our collective past."

After 167 school fairs were organized throughout the province, regional fairs were held in each school district during April and May. As a result, the following 19 students have been selected to represent their districts at the Provincial Heritage Fairs Showcase:

●    Damien LaRocque - Fredericton - Project title:  Le Grand feu de la Miramichi du 7 octobre 1825: chronique d'une catastrophe;
●    Abigail Cooper and Melanie Belong - Moncton - Project title : Le Chocolat-la famille Ganong;
●    Janelle Bélanger St-Pierre and Ariane Chouinard - Kedgwick - Project title : Les racines de Kedgwick;
●    Thomas Savoie - Balmoral - Project title : L'aéroport de Charlo;
●    Benjamin LeBlanc - Hampton - Project title : Les Acadiens;
●    Ben Fisher - Saint John - Project title : New Brunswick Forest Heritage;
●    Jérôme Thériault and Kristopher Butler - Paquetville - Project title : Les anciens bûcherons;
●    Nicole Johnson - Pennfield - Project title : Lobster Fishing in New Brunswick;
●    Emmah-Louise Allain and Alexandre Richard - Richibucto-Village and St. Charles - Project title : À travers la musique, faisons rayonner les cultures;
●    Kaitlin Crawford - Royalton - Project title : Maple Syrup - the History of Tapping;
●    Olivia Hamilton - Bathurst - Project title : Bathurst - It wouldn't be the same without mining;
●    Lyndsay Jay-Keating - Miramichi - Project title : Art of Quilting - History of Quilting;
●    Chelsea Karasek - Oromocto - Project title : The Discovery of the Augustine Mound;
●    Ashley Osa-Peters - Fredericton - Project title : The Acadians; and
●    Hannah Law - Rothesay - Project title : New Brunswick Award Winning Authors.

All of these projects will be on exhibit at Government House from June 7 to July 18.

An official medal ceremony will take place at Government House on June 25, at which time Nicholas will present each student with a provincial medal in recognition of their research.

"I invite the people of New Brunswick to visit this exhibit and discover the many talents of our students," Nicholas said. "I also congratulate the parents, teachers, sponsors, and the many volunteers who are involved each year in the Heritage Fair Program and are responsible for its success."

As part of the exhibition, during the weekend of June 24-25, 19 students and their families will gather in Fredericton for a three-day Heritage Camp, highlighted by special activities at Government House, workshops, and a sleep-over at Kings Landing.

New Brunswick's Heritage Fairs Program is a provincial initiative of the Heritage Branch of the Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport.  Support is also provided from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the New Brunswick Museum, the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, the Council of Archives New Brunswick, the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, the New Brunswick Federation of Labour, and New Brunswick's Aboriginal Affairs Secretariat.

National support is provided by The McCain Foundation and Canada's National History Society.
