FREDERICTON (GNB) – The following message was released today by Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé in recognition of National Adoption Awareness Month:

Each November, we take the opportunity to highlight the importance of adoption and those who make extraordinary efforts to welcome children and youth into their families.

It is a time when we recognize the families that have already adopted children as well as those who have just begun the long journey to welcoming a child into their home.

Many children and young people are waiting to be adopted. It is important to give these children every opportunity to have a safe, permanent and loving home where they can lead successful lives and reach their full potential.

Adopting a child gives a child a lasting home and someone on whom to depend. By adopting a child, you are inviting a new family member into your home and your heart. More importantly, you offer a child in need a chance at a new life and a family to call their own.

I acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the staff working to match children with loving families. I also congratulate and recognize the work of the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation as it celebrates its 10th anniversary of promoting and raising awareness of the importance of adoption.

In recognition of National Adoption Awareness Month, let us all take the time to celebrate the individuals and families that enhance the quality of life of New Brunswick's children by welcoming them into their families.

To those who have opened their hearts and homes to adopt a child, I commend you. To those who are considering adoption, I encourage you to contact your regional office of Department of Social Development.
