FREDERICTON (GNB) – Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé issued the following message in recognition of Special Care Home Week, Aug. 18-24:

Special Care Home Week gives us the opportunity to show support and respect for the thousands of staff who provide care and support services to about 6,000 people in New Brunswick, the majority of whom are seniors.

Special care homes play an important role in the success of rebuilding New Brunswick by providing supportive and caring environments for people whose needs can no longer be met at home. In New Brunswick, there are more than 400 special care homes.

As the demand for special care placements continues to grow with the aging population, the many professionals and caregivers whose dedication and work ethic contributes to providing excellence in care remain crucial.

This week is an opportunity to involve families, community members, youth and others in a community-wide show of support and respect for staff that provide care and support services. Their commitment and dedication to seniors and adults with disabilities are sincerely appreciated.
