FREDERICTON (GNB) – Representatives of the provincial government joined residents and community members today to celebrate the official opening of Paradise Villa, a special care home in Fredericton.

"With New Brunswick's senior population steadily increasing, special care homes will continue to play a significant role in the support and care of our seniors and adults with disabilities," said Premier David Alward. "Supportive care that enables residents to enhance their quality of life and continue to be a part of their community is essential to rebuilding New Brunswick."

New Brunswick has more than 400 special care homes accommodating more than 6,000 clients, most of whom are seniors.

"Special care homes are an important component in the province's continuum of care plan, which is evident with the opening of this facility," said Social Development Minister Madeleine Dubé.  "These facilities help ensure that our long-term care system meets the needs of our seniors today and into the future by offering the appropriate care and accommodations they require and deserve."
