SAINT JOHN (GNB) – Construction on phase 2 at Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John is underway.

In addition to extensive renovations being completed on the existing building, a 90-bed replacement facility is being built as part of phase 2.  The cost of this project is close to $22 million.

“It is exciting to see this project continue to take shape,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. “Once complete, the start-of-the-art facility will provide seniors with much improved living conditions while allowing them to remain close to their family and friends.”

Holder spoke on behalf of Social Development Minister Madeleine.Dubé.

Phase 1, completed in December 2012, consisted of the construction of a new $30.25 million, 100-bed facility.

Once phase 2 is completed, the Loch Lomond Villa facility will feature a total of 190 beds with a total cost of more than $52 million.

“Caring for our seniors is a priority of our government,” said Holder. “As the number of seniors continues to increase, we must ensure that they have access to facilities that provide welcoming and safe environments, where they feel at home.”

Both phases of the Loch Lomond Villa project are part of the provincial government's 2011-2016 Nursing Home Renovation and Replacement Plan, under which 354 nursing home beds and 704 specialized care beds are being created.
