FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has begun the process of selecting proponents to provide and operate 171 new memory care beds.
“It is wonderful to see these projects moving forward,” said Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Lisa Harris. “These new beds will ensure seniors with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia are receiving the level of care they require and deserve.”
The 2018-2023 Nursing Home Plan includes the construction of 600 new nursing home beds and 407 memory care beds over the next five years. These 171 memory care beds are part of the plan’s first phase.
Interested parties may now submit proposals.
Fostering healthy aging and support for seniors is one of the seven priority areas outlined in the New Brunswick Family Plan framework, which also focuses government action on: improving access to primary and acute care; promoting wellness; supporting people with addictions and mental health challenges; advancing women’s equality; reducing poverty and providing support for people living with a disability.
