SHERBROOKE, Que (GNB) – Team New Brunswick’s basketball team tips off against Team Saskatchewan in a quarter-final match Wednesday, Aug. 7, at the 2013 Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

The 2-1 men’s team earned a trip to the quarterfinals with a 74-50 victory over Prince Edward Island.

“It’s going to be a tough game (against Saskatchewan),” said Team New Brunswick’s basketball head coach John Hickey. “The guys are working hard, the guys are prepared and we expect to win.”

The perfect 4-0 men’s baseball team was slated to play their final round-robin game late Tuesday evening against Team Manitoba. The baseballers defeated Prince Edward Island 4-3 earlier in the day to take the perfect record into the night game.

On the mat in wrestling, Team New Brunswick got off to a great start in team competition. The men entered Tuesday evening’s match against Team Saskatchewan with a perfect 2-0 record. New Brunswick defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 33-11 and Prince Edward Island 30-13. The women defeated Prince Edward Island 40-10 to take its 1-0 record against British Columbia Tuesday evening. Both wrestling teams hit the mat again Wednesday in team competition.

The men’s and women’s volleyball teams hit the court Wednesday, Aug. 7, with the men facing Nova Scotia and the women playing Saskatchewan.

Women’s soccer plays against Prince Edward Island Wednesday afternoon in the consolation round for placing.

The men’s mountain bike trio of Neil Symington (Sussex), Mattthew Rinehart (Oromocto) and Cole Denovan (Fredericton) return to the hill Wednesday morning for the 800metre sprint, the final event for mountain bike.

After a day off Lac Magog Tuesday due to a lack of wind, the sailing team returns to the water for a pair of races Wednesday.

The women’s softball team returns to the ball field for a pair of games Wednesday, playing Newfoundland and Labrador and Alberta respectively.
