SHERBROOKE, Que. (GNB) – Team NB won gold, silver and bronze medals Friday at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Que.

Taylor Perry rowed his way to a gold medal in the men’s single scull final Friday morning at Lac Magog.

Para-athlete Veronica Coombes of Shediac Cape rolled her way to a silver medal in the 200-metre to claim her third medal of the Games. Coombes won a pair of silver medals in the 400-metre and 1,500-metre races Thursday night.

Late Friday evening, Sarah MacPherson of Keswick Ridge claimed Team NB’s third medal of the day, running to a bronze in the 5,000-metre race.

“I was here at the Canada Games to compete,” said Coombes, 15, who competed at the 2009 Canada Summer Games in Prince Edward Island. “I expected to do a PB (personal best), and I was 26 seconds faster in the 1,500 metres."

Friday’s three-medal performance lifts Team NB’s medal count to 14: five gold, four silver and five bronze, heading into Saturday, the last day of competition at the Games.

Perry could row his way to another medal as he and his teammates return to Lac Magog in the men’s double sculls and men’s eight finals. Team NB also has potential for medals in the men’s four and women’s lightweight double sculls. The women’s double sculls hit the water in the B Final.

The women’s basketball teams hit the court Saturday morning for a tip-off against Quebec in a placing match.

The road cycling team hit the streets of Sherbrooke on Saturday morning for the criterium, while the men’s soccer team closes out its competition against Nova Scotia in a placing match.The mixed team triathlon event closes out Team NB’s competition Saturday in Magog.

Following Saturday’s day of competition, Team NB athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff will attend the official closing ceremonies at Lac Des Nations in Sherbrooke before returning home to New Brunswick.
