FREDERICTON (GNB) – The members of the Team New Brunswick mission staff for the 2015 Canada Winter Games were announced today by Healthy and Inclusive Communities Minister Dorothy Shephard.

Under the direction of Chef de Mission Sherry Doiron and Assistant Chef de Mission Jason Arseneault, both from Fredericton, the mission staff will provide administrative and logistical support to more than 300 athletes, coaches and managers before and during the Games which will take place in Prince George, B.C., from Feb. 13 to March 1.

“I have the greatest confidence that Sherry and Jason will lead our mission staff, and all members of Team New Brunswick, to success in Prince George,” said Shephard. “I know the behind-the-scenes role that the mission staff play provides valuable support to the competitive endeavours of New Brunswick athletes and coaches. I congratulate all mission staff members on their selection to Team NB.”

The mission staff team has begun preparations and will work for the next 10 months to ensure the team is ready. At the same time, provincial sport-governing bodies will complete the selection of their coaches, managers and the athletes that will represent their sport at the Games.

Doiron, a consultant with the Sport and Recreation Branch of the Department of Healthy and Inclusive Communities, was Assistant Chef de Mission at the 2013 Canada Summer Games and has many years of experience in high-performance sport, having served teams at the provincial and national levels. Arseneault, also a consultant with the department, served on the Team NB Mission staff in 2013 and was the Assistant Chef de Mission for les Jeux de la Francophonie internationale in 2013.

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport competition with participation from every province and territory. They are held every two years, alternating between winter and summer. The 2015 Canada Winter Games will bring together about 3,000 athletes, coaches and managers.

Sports on the competition calendar for New Brunswick include alpine skiing, archery, gymnastics, badminton, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, hockey, judo, ringette, target shooting, speed skating, synchronized swimming, squash and wheelchair basketball.
