PRINCE GEORGE, B.C (GNB) – Team New Brunswick archers Alyssa Murphy, of Hanwell,  and Hailey Baisley, of Miramichi, each won bronze medals in their respective events Tuesday at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C.

Baisley fired the winning shot on his last arrow to win a bronze medal in the men’s recurve event Tuesday evening.

“It feels amazing, it’s the best day of my life,” said Baisley, 19, right after the medal performance. “It’s getting to do what I love and achieving my goals for so long.”

Earlier in the day, Murphy did the exact same thing as Baisley by firing her winning shot on the last arrow to win a bronze medal in the women’s compound archery.

“I didn’t see it (winning the medal) coming,” said Murphy, 14, following the event. “It took a lot of concentration and breathing.”

Murphy and her competitor from Team British Columbia were tied with three arrows left. Murphy’s last shot snagged the bronze-medal performance by one single point.

“My day started off good,” she added. "Then I had a bad round then I came back strong.”

Tuesday’s double-medal performance gives Team New Brunswick three medals.

Murphy returns to action Wednesday in the mixed team compound event with Christopher Golden, who missed the men’s compound archery medal round by one point.
