PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. (GNB) – Team New Brunswick finished Wednesday’s competition strong at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, B.C.

Target shooter Emily Dean finished fourth in the women’s individual air rifle competition. Dean entered the competition already with a medal to her credit after winning Team New Brunswick’s first medal of the Canada Games with a silver-medal performance Monday. Delayne Donahue and Dean, both of St. Stephen, claimed the medal in the team target shooting competition.

In archery, Christopher Golden, of Tracy, and Alyssa Murphy, of Hanwell, fell short in the compound team event, missing the bronze medal by one single point to host Team British Columbia. Murphy won bronze Tuesday in the women’s individual compound event.

The Fredericton curling foursome of Ben MacFarlane, Carter Small, Adam Tracy and Brent Wishart, won its first match of the competition Wednesday, defeating Team Yukon 18-0 in the morning draw.

Sam Piekarski, of Rothesay, was Team New Brunswick’s top skier, finishing 19th in the slalom event. Alexie Laplante, of Edmundston, placed 22nd, followed by Jennifer Clarke, of Fredericton, 25th, Olivia McLean, of Penobsquis, 34th and Kay Mills, of Fredericton, in 40th.

In Fort St. John, Team New Brunswick’s long track speed skating team hit the ice with the women’s team nailing a fifth-place performance in the team pursuit. The men placed eighth in the team pursuit. The long track speed skating event relocated to Fort St. John from Prince George due to mild weather conditions.

In the men’s 500 metre event, Andrew Peppard, of St-Andrews, placed 26th followed by Spencer Thorpe,of  St-Andrews, 29th, Ian Verschoor, of Sussex 30th and Gabriel-Andre Savoie, of Dieppe, 31st.

Danielle Dumouchel, of Saint John, was the top New Brunswicker in the 500 metre event, finishing 16th.  Freya Clark, of St-Andrews placed 23rd followed by Abby Jackson, of Moncton 30th, and Maggie Oliver, of Grand Bay-Westfield, 32nd.

New Brunswick will face off against Manitoba, Thursday in semi-final ringette play after beating Saskatchewan, 9-2 on Wednesday evening.

In men gymnastics, Antoine Gautreau of Rothesay placed 23rd while Patrick Talbot of Quispamsis was 25th and Cameron MacMaster of Quispamsis , 27th in the all-around male event.
