FREDERICTON (GNB) – The members of the Team New Brunswick mission staff for the 2017 Canada Summer Games were announced today by Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames.

Led by chef de mission Nicole Smith and assistant chef de mission Jason Arseneault, the mission staff features qualified individuals who will provide administrative and logistical support to more than 400 athletes, coaches and managers before and during the Games, which will take place in Winnipeg from July 28 to August 13, 2017.

“Mission staff are essential to our athletes’ success, ensuring their needs are taken care of so they can excel in competition and realize their potential,” said Ames. “I congratulate all mission staff members on their selection to Team NB.”

Provincial sport-governing bodies will complete the selection of their coaches, managers and the athletes that will represent their sport at the Games.

“As chef de mission, I am thrilled with the recent selection of mission staff for the upcoming Canada Games,” said Smith. “Their collective experience will be a huge asset when leading the team in Winnipeg.”

Sports on the competition calendar for New Brunswick include athletics, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, canoe/kayak, cycling, diving, golf, rowing, sailing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling

The Canada Games are a national multi-sport competition held every two years, alternating between winter and summer. They will bring together about 4000 athletes, coaches and managers from every province and territory in Canada to compete in 16 sports. The Games will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2017, coinciding with Canada’s 150th birthday.
