WINNIPEG (GNB) – New Brunswick’s women’s basketball team battled back from a first-quarter deficit today and defeated Prince Edward Island 79-45 during the first day of competitions at the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

The team returns to the court Sunday against British Columbia. The men’s squad will tip-off against Team Yukon Sunday after losing a heartbreaker in the dying seconds of their first match Saturday 65-62 to Team Alberta.

In baseball, Team New Brunswick will play a pair of games Sunday, facing off against Team Prince Edward Island in the morning, followed by a night game against host Team Manitoba. They defeated Newfoundland and Labrador 10-0 in their opening game.

The men’s softball team will also play a pair of games Sunday, facing off against Team Ontario and Team Prince Edward Island. Team New Brunswick lost their two opening matches today to Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec.

Women’s soccer plays host Team Manitoba Sunday night. The soccer squad played a late night match today against Team Nova Scotia.

Competitions in men’s and women’s beach volleyball, men’s mountain biking, as well as sailing will kick off Sunday. Both triathlon and rowing will start their respective competitions Monday.
