FREDERICTON (GNB) – Eight students from across the province have won the 2014 New Brunswick Stamp Stories 2014 contest.

A province-wide competition designed to engage New Brunswick youth in thinking about their provincial identity, Stamp Stories is an annual event. In February, students were invited to submit an illustration they felt best represented the province's history or heritage. The drawings were then narrowed down to 10 designs representing each school district and posted online so the public could vote for their favourite.

This year's winners are:

●    Janie T. - École Soleil Levant - Richibucto - Francophone Sud school district - The Cultures of my Heart!;
●    Lhasa S. - École communautaire Sœur-Saint-Alexandre - Lamèque - Francophone Nord-Est school district - Vive l'Acadie!;
●    Nicholas H. - Hume Homeschool - Richibucto Road - Independent school - Blockhouse: Protecting our Nation;
●    Rebecca P. - Eleanor W. Graham Middle School - Rexton - Anglophone North School District - When I Think of New Brunswick;
●    Renée-Claude D. - École Mgr-Matthieu-Mazerolle - Rivière-Verte - Francophone Nord-Ouest school district - Aca-Brunswick;
●    Sarah A. - Harry Miller Middle School - Rothesay - Anglophone South School District - Chickadee/Provincial Bird;
●    Thomas M. - Riverview East School - Riverview - Anglophone East School District - Hopewell Rocks; and
●    Vanessa R. - Donald Fraser Memorial School - Plaster Rock - Anglophone West School District - New Brunswick's Amazing Discoveries.

"I congratulate the winners of this year's Stamp Stories contest," said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. "Our government is committed to engaging the next generation of New Brunswickers in our history.  These students can be proud of their accomplishments and sharing a part of our provincial heritage within their communities."

The winning illustrations can be viewed online.The winning students will also have their artwork reproduced on a commemorative plaque which will be presented to them during their school's year-end ceremonies.
