FREDERICTON (GNB) – New Brunswick's archives community, through the Associates of the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick in partnership with the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick, received $100,000 in funding as part of the implementation of Creative Futures— A Renewed Cultural Policy for New Brunswick.

This funding will support several strategic initiatives to preserve and develop archival resources in the province. The provincial government has also increased operational funding to the council by $10,000 for a total of $65,000.

“This increased funding will help the Council of Archives New Brunswick continue to flourish, deliver on its important mandate and launch valuable initiatives for the archives community in New Brunswick,” said Energy and Mines Minister Craig Leonard, who spoke on behalf of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder.

As part of the renewed cultural policy, an additional $1.3 million will be directed to New Brunswick’s five key cultural institutions.

Creative Futures is the result of a multi-year renewal process that focused on the four areas of action identified in the 2002 policy:

• culture’s role in our everyday lives, including education, access to culture and cultural awareness;
• the role of artists, arts organizations and arts infrastructure in creating a vibrant cultural sector;
• conserving our collective heritage and ensuring quality design and planning; and
• the role of culture in economic development.
