PRINCE WILLIAM (GNB) – After months of development, Kings Landing officially opened the Dr. George MacBeath Exhibit Hall on Aug. 9 to a crowd of more than one hundred guests and dignitaries.

The event also featured the dedication in memory of Dr. George MacBeath and the opening of its first exhibit. The hall’s expansion was announced in January with funding from Canadian Heritage.

“We launched our inaugural exhibit – fittingly a retrospective of our own history over the last 40 years,” said executive director of the Kings Landing Corporation Kevin Cormier. “It pays homage to the hard work and complex task of getting an institution like this off the ground. And last, but certainly not least, it pays respect and celebrates an individual whose tireless passion and vision made it possible for us to tie these two themes together, 40 years later.”

Lt.-Gov. Graydon Nicholas officially opened the hall. Also present for the opening was several members of Dr. MacBeath’s family.

Exhibit Hall’s purpose is to accommodate traveling exhibits and as act as an extension to programming for Kings Landing. The 40th Anniversary retrospective detailing the development and growth of Kings Landing will run until the end of the season.

“In the mid 1960’s an initiative was just getting underway to develop a historical settlement to preserve the history of the local headpond area as the Mactaquac hydro-electric project began,” said Cormier. “Dr. George MacBeath, at the time the deputy minister of historical resources for the province, was installed as the chair of the board of directors and led the development and initial days of operation.  Among his many accolades and accomplishments over his distinguished life and career, I’m told he considered Kings Landing one of his finest accomplishments.”
