FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government recognizes National Coaches Week which runs from Sept. 17 to 25.

The week highlights the dedication and hard work of all the coaches who play a key role in the growth and development of their athletes.

“Coaches are mentors, motivators and leaders,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames. “Along with parents and teachers, coaches have a profound impact on the future of our children. It is a great responsibility and Canada’s two million coaches embrace it with passion and dedication.”

Coaches play a major role in ensuring that all athletes, regardless of skill, learn to enjoy and appreciate physical activity through organized sport. Nurturing this interest in physical activity at an early age is essential to developing lifelong healthy behaviours, which in turn supports to the overall health of the population.

“I would also like to recognize that many of the coaches found across our province are volunteers,” said Ames. “Men and women who devote countless hours of their personal time to improving their coaching abilities, learning more about their sport, and who dedicate significant time to organizing and coaching their athletes.”
