FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government is turning over the operation and management of the Mactaquac Golf Course to a well-known golf course operator in Fredericton. GolfCo. Inc., also known as Kingswood Ventures Inc., has signed a 10-year agreement with the government.

“We listen to New Brunswickers and get things done,” said deputy premier Stephen Horsman. “Mactaquac Golf Course was identified as a business that falls outside the scope of the government’s core mandate during the Strategic Program Review process. Today’s announcement is another example of our commitment to find efficiencies within government while continuing to deliver high-quality essential services such as health and education.”

Horsman spoke on behalf of Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister John Ames.

“Kingswood is proud to expand upon and continue the tradition of the Mactaquac Golf Course,” said Brian Johnson, president and owner of Kingswood Ventures Inc. “Mactaquac has been one of the top golf courses in Atlantic Canada, and we are excited to add this great facility to our golf operations and overall expansion. The addition of Mactaquac will allow us to compete with neighbouring provinces to provide packages of top-quality golf facilities, along with our new resort hotel.”

Kingswood’s future plans for Mactaquac will involve soliciting higher-profile events and offering packages to local golfers. The golf course is located near Fredericton in Mactaquac Provincial Park, which features a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year, as well as more than 300 campsites.

The tourism sector employs more than 42,000 New Brunswickers and has been identified in the New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan as a major component of the government’s economic vision.
