RED DEER, Alta. (GNB) – New Brunswick’s archery and judo teams make their debut on Tuesday, Feb 26, at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta.

The judo squad hits the mats in the morning with individual bouts followed by finals in the category later in the evening.

The individual and mixed team qualifying events in both compound and recurve archery begin as well for Team New Brunswick.

Both curling teams will return to the ice for draws against Team Manitoba. The men’s team (2-2) composed of Rahman Dalrymple, Alexander Peasley, Logan Pugsley and Boo Porter defeated Quebec 5-4 on Monday evening following a 9-3 loss to Newfoundland and Labrador earlier in the day. The women’s foursome (1-3) of Rachel Brewer, Erica Cliff, Ashley Cormier and Deanna MacDonald defeated Team Quebec 7-4 Monday evening following an 8-7 loss to Newfoundland and Labrador.

Gymnastics trampoline athletes Evan Edwards and Andrew Poelgato made it to Monday’s individual finals. Poelgato finished fifth in the men’s event and Edwards placed seventh in the women’s event. Trampoline action will continue with the mixed team event on Tuesday afternoon.

The women’s hockey team will play Team Manitoba in the final game of the preliminaries. They currently sit 0-2 in their pool behind Saskatchewan, Quebec and Manitoba.

Figure skaters Brennan Webb, Tyler Bishop, Melissa Fong and Catherine Baril made their debut on Monday in their respective pre-novice short programs. The novice program makes its debut on Tuesday.

The alpine skiers hit the slopes at Kananaskis for giant slalom and para-skiing events. The cross-country ski team will participate in sprint qualifying events and heats.

After a good day on the court, the badminton team will face quarter-finals and semifinals in all divisions. The squad will return to the court on Tuesday after a rest day on Monday.
