FREDERICTON (CNB) – Lt.-Gov. Graydon Nicholas, together with Energy Minister Craig Leonard, representing the Government of New Brunswick, and Dominic Cardy, leader of New Brunswick's New Democratic Party, will attend the state funeral for the late Jack Layton in Toronto on Saturday.

"I am honoured to attend this solemn event," said Nicholas. "The late federal New Democratic Party leader was a great Canadian who promoted stronger cultural ties in all regions of our country, and the least I can do is pay my respects as the Queen's representative from New Brunswick.

"Mr. Layton dedicated his life to serving the public good, and the outpouring of sympathy from across our nation is proof that he had an effect on people."
