FREDERICTON (GNB) – Lt.-Gov. Graydon Nicholas is opening the doors of Government House for the holidays.

Two events are planned:

●    Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.: a holiday open house; and
●    Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013: 2 p.m.-4 p.m.: the Lieutenant-Governor’s New Year’s levee.

“The holiday open house is a chance to see how wonderfully decorated this vice-regal residence is – with fresh trees and handmade ornaments,” said Nicholas.

The open house will feature music, refreshments and decorations highlighting the lieutenant-governor's First Nations heritage.

“I also invite people to join my wife, Beth, and me for our New Year's levee on Jan. 1,” said Nicholas.

The levee is a centuries-old traditional of gathering to greet friends and neighbours and the New Year at Government House. The levee is open to all, with special emphasis on families.

“We serve a tasty fish chowder, homemade cookies and mulled cider – it is a tradition,” said Nicholas. “We also accept donations of non-perishable food items for the Fredericton Food Bank. It is our way of trying to give back.”
