FREDERICTON (GNB) – Five teachers and three early childhood educators in the francophone sector have received the Excellence in Education Award in recognition of their exceptional work over the 2018-19 school year.

“I congratulate these individuals for their exemplary dedication and outstanding work with our students, and I thank them for giving our children a head start from early childhood,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Dominic Cardy. “Educators and teachers in French-language schools and educational child care are essential to the proper functioning of our education system. We rely upon their skills, experience and creativity to achieve the goals of our 10-year education plans, to enhance the quality of teaching for the benefit of students.”

The 26th annual Excellence in Education Awards ceremony was held on Saturday, Nov. 2, in Fredericton. Awards were presented to the following educators:

Francophone nord-est school district:

• Tania Roy – École communautaire Carrefour étudiant, Beresford;

• Éric Chiasson – École Marie-Esther, Shippagan;

• Stéphanie Raymond – Garderie Les Débrouillards et l’Énergicentre, Atholville (Val D’Amours neighbourhood).

Francophone nord-ouest school district:

• Hélène Savoie-Chouinard – École Marie-Gaétane, Kedgwick;

• Linda Harris Soucy – Centre de soins et éducation Mickey & Minnie, Saint-André.

Francophone sud school district:

• Michelle Dupuis – École Le Marais, Dieppe;

• Steven Haché – École Louis-J.-Robichaud, Shediac;

• Tina Brasseur – La P’tite École daycare centre, New Maryland.

The awards recognize individuals who have shown exceptional dedication, ingenuity, leadership, passion and professionalism throughout the education and early learning systems. They also highlight the success of innovative methods of fostering young children and students, exceptional efforts to promote a positive learning environment, and initiatives to support students with difficulties.

The awards were created in 1992 and, since 2015, have included early childhood educators. In total, including those honoured this year, 208 teachers and educators in the francophone system have been recognized.
