SAINT ANDREWS (GNB) – The 2014 Buy Local Summer Tour will be in Saint Andrews on Saturday, May 24, for the inaugural Flavours New Brunswick event featuring specially-created dishes using local food by some of New Brunswick's top chefs.

“This is an exciting event because of its focus on using New Brunswick products from land to sea and the many delicious ways they can be paired together,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Michael Olscamp. “Events like this are also important because they educate those in the hospitality industry about what the province has to offer in terms of local products so that they can share that information with visitors and New Brunswickers.”

Flavours New Brunswick will bring together chefs, producers, industry and hospitality students. Participants will be able to sample unique creations made from such products as wild blueberries, Atlantic salmon, chocolate, oysters, sturgeon, maple, cheese, oils, wine and beer.

“This is a terrific opportunity for our communities to showcase the best of what New Brunswick has to offer,” said Tourism, Heritage and Culture Minister Trevor Holder. “Our culinary landscape sets us apart from the rest of the world. We are proud to be involved in sharing a unique tourism product with visitors in Saint Andrews, which has become a world-class tourism destination of choice.”

Flavours New Brunswick is organized by chefs Darren Dorcas and Dave Irvin and instructor Kim Garron of the New Brunswick Community College in Saint Andrews as a learning opportunity for their tourism and hospitality students, in partnership with Ganong Chocolatier, Granite Town Farms, True North Salmon, and the Algonquin Resort.

“The students are looking forward to working with chefs and vendors from around the province and learning from them,” said Garron. “This is a great learning opportunity for the students, and a great way for New Brunswick producers to showcase their products.”

The event takes place at the New Brunswick Community College campus in Saint Andrews.
