FREDERICTON (GNB) – Several New Brunswick companies are participating in an international frozen seafood exhibition, being held Oct. 4-6 in Vigo, Spain.

“New Brunswick seafood and aquaculture products are feeding the world, thanks to the participation of local companies in events like this,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet. “Expanding global markets for our fish and seafood products help to create sustainable jobs here at home.”

The CONXEMAR exhibition brings together wholesalers, importers, processors and exporters of fish and aquaculture products. It attracts more than 25,000 visitors and suppliers of frozen seafood products, equipment and services from 43 countries.

Companies being featured in the Canadian pavilion at the exhibition include Westmorland Fisheries Ltd. of Cap-Pelé and Paturel International of Northern Harbour.

In addition, Ocean Blue Fisheries of Dieppe and International Seafood and Bait of Shippagan will be attending the exhibition.

“New Brunswick has some of the world’s best seafood products and we have taken great strides in leading sustainable management practices,” said Doucet. “The participation of these companies in the CONXEMAR exhibition has an enormous impact on our ability to attract European customers, opening new markets and spurring economic growth in our province.”

The presence of New Brunswick companies at international expos and other global activities is part of the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries’ continuing strategy to aggressively pursue new markets and increase exports.
