RIVERVIEW (GNB) – Several New Brunswick communities will soon benefit from improvements to their wastewater infrastructure under the federal Gas Tax Fund. A total of seven communities will see upgrades and improvements to their wastewater collection and treatment systems in Fundy Bay, Gillies, Greensborough, Harvey Lake, Havelock, Roachville and Sainte-Marie-de-Kent.

“These projects will ensure responsible management of our water and wastewater, and will help us to assist local service districts in upgrading their infrastructure,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claude Williams. “This helps to foster a cleaner environment and sustainable communities, which contributes to a better quality of life for our residents.”

Williams spoke on behalf of Environment and Local Government Minister Danny Soucy.

Work will span over several years and will range from upgrading, improving or building new wastewater treatment facilities and systems. In some areas additional households will also be connected to the local treatment system.

The proper treatment of wastewater ensures the health and safety of families and residents while protecting the environment. Projects like these will contribute to the health of New Brunswick communities for years to come.

“Our government is proud to invest in infrastructure projects that respond to the evolving needs of local residents. We understand the importance of providing communities with new and novel ways to modernize their wastewater infrastructure and protect our environment,” said Fundy-Royal MP Rob Moore, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). “Our government's investments through the Gas Tax Fund will continue to generate economic growth and job creation here in New Brunswick and across Canada.”
